Post-Op Day 31

Hello! Sorry for the lack of posts for the past few days. I was out of town (and had a fabulous time) and Dan said he was too exhausted after chasing Drew around on his bike with the IV pole all day.

So not much has been going on around here. Just IV antibiotics, dressing changes twice a day and figuring out ways to pass the time. We tried to get into the Ronald McDonald House, but have heard that it's nearly impossible, so we are staying at a hotel at a discounted rate. We were staying at Kathy's house, but since Scott is home from college and is working we thought he should have his room back. And now he's sick, so it's a good thing we have another place to stay. Plus we are keeping Ava with us more and trying to re-establish somewhat of a routine for her.

Today Drew got to take his first real bath in a month! He had been getting sponge baths in his bed, but his incision is healed enough now that he can take a bath in waist deep water. We did have to rig something up to protect his PICC line from getting wet, but I forgot to bring my camera in the bathroom. I'll try to remember next time. For now I'll leave you with a picture of Ava's nap in Drew's room today. It only lasted a half hour, so you can imagine how she was the rest of the day...

Looked like you needed that nap as much as she did! So happy you could get away for a couple days and that Drew's weekend was uneventful. I like when there is not much to report, because then I feel you are that much closer to coming home! Praying as always...

thanks for the new post! glad to read you had fun at the bachelorette party (I want to hear more!). And, glad the weekend went okay for Dan. I bet it was nice to get a break and take care of yourself a bit (you need that). Hooray for Drew's bath. It must have felt great. We MISS you guys. Love and hugs, Kacie

I talked to Drew today on the phone and he asked me if I wanted to come see him at the hospital, so of course I said, "YES I want to come see you." Then he wanted me to sing him two songs, and I was in the middle of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when my boss,Norm, walked into my office. Thankfully, he thought it was cute They all follow his story here, so are very supportive of me and always tell me how extraordinary you and your family are.
I can't stay away any longer, two weeks is way too long and I will be back on Thursday. Can your social worker get us into the same hotel, maybe? I love you!

I hope RMH opens up for you...it's such a HUGE relief!

My big boys are coming for a visit tomorrow...I'll have to see if they want to visit you guys (or my sister could have them dressed like ragamuffins...and I will NOT take them anywhere!)

PLEASE call me if Drew will let me sit with him so you guys can go out for a little while...tell him I'll find a new game and bring it!

Tell us how the new hotel room is...it has to be MUCH better than the last one!!!

Lots of love and prayers,
Kathy

the hospital thing is so weird. there's almost never another time in life where the more boring things are, the better they are. ps you look like bandit in your picture with ava; one of your eyes is just glinting at me a little bit! (but not evilly, like when he does it.)

Cute pic of you and Ava napping. I can't imagine how she was the rest of the day. Probably like my delightful teething baby. She screamed in every car ride yesturday because of her sore mouth.

I had lot's of fun this weekend. I am soooo glad that you could make it. All I have to say is "apple bottom jeans, boots with the "pearls!"

I always laugh the most with you and Kate. I can't wait until your home and there will be more fun times again.

P.s. Dan, thanks for letting Andrea get away. Your awesome!!!

THinking of you,
Jen
