Not yet...

The doctors came by and decided not to extubate yet. I am really disappointed. It's so hard to wait. But when the tube comes out I want it to stay out, and it really has only been 36 hours or so since he's come back from surgery. The reason they are waiting is that his x-rays are showing some fluid in or around his lungs. There is some concern about reperfusion because since his surgery his lungs are getting more blood flow than they've ever seen and his body needs to adjust to this anatomy. They plan to do another x-ray around 6 tonight and see what it looks like. Then they'll decide if they want to extubate tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime they are starting some feeds through his ng tube, so at least he won't be hungry when he does wake up.

Some verses I've been meditating on:
2 Corinthians 4:18
So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
2 Corinthians 13:9
My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.
Romans 8:18
Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.
Psalm 27:14
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes wait patiently for the Lord.

Sorry that he isn't ready to get the tube out...but, like you said...it's better to take it out when he's ready so it can STAY OUT!!!

He does look so peaceful sleeping there. Is there a window beside him?? That looks like the same bed space we get everytime we go there!

Hope you ALL have a good day!
and hope you don't hear beeps in your head all day!

Sending our love and prayers,
Kathy

Great scripture! It encouraged me too! Glad to hear that the doctor's are being "careful" in their care for Drew, although I'm sure it's disappointing to an extent that his tube isn't coming out yet. I skipped church today to work on some of my consulting (just trying to explain my "mid-church" post - hahahaha).

I am sorry to hear about having to wait on the extabation. I couldn't believe how loud it was in there while watching your video. Listening to you explain what all the lines are and where they are on his little body put both Freddie and I in tears. I know this can't be easy but you guys are amazing! We are constantly thinking of you and praying. We have the blog page opened on both computers and refresh them everytime we walk by or when we come home after being gone! We love you all!!

Be brave and courageous. So funny you wrote that. Eric preached on that today, but from Joshua. He must have said that phrase 2 dozen times!

Andrea- I just want to let you know...I was working in the preschool room this morning and Drew's friends had a precious time of prayer for him. It was so sweet to hear their little hearts lifting up their friend to the Lord. They miss him a lot and the boys were arguing after about who was going to visit Drew FIRST and bring him the BEST present. We are all praying. It is a cool thing that by partnering with you in your time of trial, we are all being pulled closer to the Lord!
We can't wait to hear more...

that makes sense about his body needing to adjust to the new operating system, i didn't even think about that! and you're right, even though it's been the loooongest 36 hours, that's still very close to such a big surgery. that's a good perspective on wanting the tube to *stay* out once they've extubated him, too. a bit more waiting for a better outcome. whew. hang in there, loves.
