No Pokes!

We attempted our CT scan this morning, arriving at UCDMC at 9 am. What Dan failed to mention in his post is that when the nurse first called me yesterday she said that Drew was going to be completely unconscious with a breathing tube for the CT. Um, no he's not. I told her, he is having surgery on Friday and I do not want him intubated three days before. To which she replied "are you a nurse?" And I said "no, but I play one on TV." OK, I didn't say that.

But we did have a talk and she came up with the plan to try to let him do it on his own in the morning. So Dan practiced with him last night, and it paid off! Drew was able to lay in the CT scanner and hold still while they took the pictures, with no pokes, no straps, no sedation, no nothing! He was so brave and I was so proud of him! I could see he got scared when the machine started, I saw his little eyes moving around looking at the scanner. But I stood right next to him and talked him through it. The technician gave him a teddy bear to keep, and the whole thing lasted maybe ten minutes from the time we got in the room until we left.

Now Dan is at the pharmacy picking up Drew's medication (maybe we won't need it ever again after surgery!) and picking up the disc with the CT on it so we can bring it to Stanford. I can't believe we're leaving tomorrow! I'm kind of excited!

Drew is amazing! That can't have been easy to lay still for so long with all the scary machines and sounds. He is such a little champ- give him a big hug from all of us.

I felt excited for Joshua's Glenn too. It just felt right. I knew that everything would be okay and that feeling was an answer to prayers.
We are certainly praying for you!
