Loose Ends

It's been a while since I've mentioned SURGERY, but I am paying attention to my calendar and I know that there are only 16 days left. Tomorrow is Ava's birthday and that post will be all about her, so here's what's been going on with insurance, Stanford and other preparations.

Insurance
We are convinced that our out of pocket maximum for Drew for the entire year is $3500. And we now have it in writing from someone at Health Net. So we are proceeding with that idea in mind and if we get some huge unexpected bill after surgery, we already have the name of the best lawyer to handle our case. Seriously. Don't mess with us Health Net!

Stanford
Well, let me just say that a certain someone who works in peds cardiothoracic surgery, whose name rhymes with posie, is not the most helpful person I've ever spoken with. Every time I call her I feel like I'm bothering her. She was suppose to send us a packet with all the info we need about surgery (usually admitting info, housing info, social worker & child life info, etc.) and we still haven't received it. She is also the person who needs to call the insurance company to make sure that surgery is authorized (if it isn't it will cost us $7000). When I called Health Net on Monday they still hadn't heard from her. So I had Dan call her yesterday and when I asked how it went he said "she seems overworked." Isn't he sweet? When he asked about the packet she said she was behind on them and she'd fed ex it to us (still haven't received it) and when he inquired about the authorization she said "oh yeah, I'll do that too."

Other
We still need to get that CT for Drew scheduled. Apparently if they don't have it done they may want to postpone surgery. I've already had our pediatrician call radiology to set up the appointment and I've also called them myself to tell them of our time constraint. The nurse is suppose to call me back, but I haven't heard from them yet. Why must everyone require nagging from me?!

We also have friends who will watch the dogs for us while we are gone--Thanks Quayles! We will be staying with Grandma Kathy during surgery--although we will probably stay in a hotel for the first day or two so Drew doesn't associate surgery with Grandma's house. We will have some family in town for the day of surgery so Ava's covered for the first few days and then we'll figure something out for her for the rest of the time. And my very best friend from home called the other day and said she'd already made arrangements to be here for surgery. It brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful friend I have!

Nagging?? PLEASE...isn't that what we should save for our sweet hubbys!?!?

I haven't had the opportunity to talk with Posie...our cards office always takes care of the arrangements. Sorry she's being a stinker..but, I can confirm that EVERYONE at that hospital is overworked. The CVICU is always packed, waiting lists, bumping surgeries...it's a mad house...(it's like the ONE club you're trying to get into..and you're waiting outside hoping to get picked!!)

I can't wait to see Ava's pics...
Have a wonderful day and don't even think about anything but cake and ice cream!! yummy!

Glad your friends and family are all helping out...I don't even think they know how meaningful the smallest gestures are during these stressful times...THANKS ANDREA's friends and family...

Hugs to you guys,
Kathy

I'm so glad your friend will be there with you for surgery. That makes such a huge difference, doesn't it?!

Haha, I love Kathy's analogy about the club. :) It sounds like Stanford is exactly like that, so unfortunately some digging is necessary. I guess that's the price to pay for DR. HANLEY!

We will be praying that everything falls into place in the next few weeks. It will all work out somehow, it always does. Happy birthday to AVA!

What a great friend you have. I know it makes the world of a difference. I really hate that it takes us nagging people to get things done. I've been doing that for months and I'm always so sweet...well the gloves are coming out!!!

Just know I'm always thinking and praying for you guys.

Love,
Vanessa
