He's in the Operating Room

We got here at 6 am and waited in the PACU. Drew did great! They didn't take him back to the OR until about 8:15, but he really did fabulous. He played with dinosaurs, watched a movie and only asked for a snack a couple of times. About 7:15 he said "I want to go to the operating room!" I guess he was tired of waiting too. They gave him the versed (which makes him relaxed and sleepy) and the anesthesiologist was impressed that he took it all by himself, and that he had a CT with no anesthesia. When it was time to go, he was awake, but very relaxed. He said goodbye with no tears, we said we'd see him when he woke up and he said ok. Now Dan and I are going to have breakfast in the cafeteria, then come back up to meet Dr. Hanley before he goes into the operating room. They said it could be 9:30 before he actually begins surgery, the rest of the time is anesthesia getting Drew prepared. We don't expect to hear from the surgeons again until 3 or so, but we'll post if we get any updates.

Wow, Drew is such a strong little guy. Stay busy at the hospital.. Play tic/tac/toe, hangman, 20 questions. Anything to bring smiles to your faces and peace in your heart.
Love you guys

I was thinking of you yesterday and decided to see if I could find you to see how you guys were doing. To my surprise I found this blog and have been thinking about you guys constantly since yesterday afternoon. Doesn't God work in strange ways? (My kids were very moved when I told them of Drew's surgery today and had lots of questions.)
What an amazing little boy you have...such incredible strength. He gets that from somewhere you know!
I'll be praying for all of you today.

I think everyone's already said it- but Drew's updates are so helpful to all of us who are thinking of him miles and miles away. Especially his big, smiley photos- his spirit puts us all at ease! You are amazing for taking the time to give us such detailed posts- I don't know how you do it! All our love and prayers are with you, Dan, Drew, and Ava.
