We're Outta There!

Yay! We were discharged around 5:30 and made it back to Grandma's house by 7:00. Drew woke up around 3:00 and watched a movie and just held some chicken nuggets in his hands, but didn't eat them. He woke up saying his neck hurt and his tummy hurt. Got him some tylenol for the neck and some goldfish for his tummy. He drank a lot of water and was pretty whiny. But he's happily watching yet another dinosaur movie on Grandma's couch now. We plan on staying here tonight and getting some good rest. Then we'll head home in the morning where my mom is waiting to take over caring for us.

Thank you all for checking in on us. We really appreciate all the prayers and support.

Now, I'm off to have a well-deserved beer.

Me and Drew watching a movie when he woke up. He wanted me to "hug him closer."

Just after Drew opened his present for being so brave. He looks excited, doesn't he?

Oh Andrea, I am so glad it is over and you are home! I was really thinking of you and Drew over the past few days. I sure hope the doctor is correct and Drew can have a full repair. What a miracle that would be!
Everytime I hear about the IV ordeal, it makes me cry. No one can understand unless you've been there. I've told my mom but nothing is the same as when you are present. She was with me one time when they were having a horrible time with Faith. She actually went to the bathroom and threw up!!!
So, I am glad this ordeal is over and Drew pulled through so well. He is a strong one! Take Care - Shelly and Faith

Dear Andrea,

My name is Sebastian, I'm 14, and I'm currently in high school. This year in Biology, we were supposed to choose a genetic disorder to research and give a presentation on, and I chose DiGeorge.

Earlier today, I inadvertantly stumbled upon your blog as I searched for material to use in my conclusion, and started reading. I just want to say that I am truly sorry that Drew had to be born with these problems, because no person could ever deserve what he has to go through (and especially not someone as adorable as Drew). I know how hard it must be to take him to the hospital for check ups or surgeries because my youngest sister, who was born 3 months premature, had to go through all that (well, not heart surgeries, but hospital visits, intense therapy, and lots and lots and lots of shots) for the first 3 years of her life, and I could see how much it pained my mom. I'm glad to read that Drew's doing well, because if what you'd written was anything less than optimistic and cheery, I would probably have started tearing up.
It's kind of hard to convey one's feelings over the internet, but I'll just say that you, Drew, and your family will be in my prayers, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck in whatever lies ahead.

~Sebastian
