Singing at Winding Commons

Yesterday Ava’s preschool class took a field trip to Winding Commons to sing to the grandmas and grandpas that live there. Ava had been practicing her songs for weeks and was excited to sing to the people. It was very sweet to see and the residents loved seeing the children perform. At the end of the performance—three songs I believe—the kids handed out some artwork they had created to each resident in attendance. What a sweet idea! I’m so glad that her preschool did this!

Ava's Last Day of Preschool

Yesterday was Ava's last day of preschool. She has had a great year as a Happy Butterfly and loved her teachers Miss Mendy, Miss Cathy and Miss Ashley. It was a bittersweet last day, because Ava will not be going back next year. We are moving her to a preschool that is closer to home. It was hard for me to say goodbye to everyone, because we have been going there for three years-since Drew was in the 3s class. They have been with us as we prepared for and then went through his heart surgery and did such a good job of caring for the whole family. I love them all and will miss them next year!

Guess What?

Today, when I went to pick Ava up from preschool she ran towards me with the biggest smile on her face.

"Guess what I have in my pocket?!" she asked me.

And before I could venture a guess, she thrust her hand into her pocket then held it out for me to see.

"Worms!"

Seriously? You seriously have worms in your pocket?

Then the teacher came up to me and said, "She was so excited, we didn't want to discourage her." So they let her put five worms in her dress pocket. Ew.

I asked for a cup and we transported the worms home that way. Ava reported from the back seat that they were "resting." I believe they will remain in a continuous state of rest, if you know what I mean.

Ava's First Day as a Happy Butterfly

My big girl had her first day of preschool yesterday! She did great, as I expected. :) She's just so independent, she's never given me any trouble when I need to drop her off somewhere. She walked in and got right to work with a puzzle. She did give me a bit of an attitude when I wanted to take her picture though! But I wasn't too surprised. :) Anyway, she had a good day and is so excited to go back to school tomorrow with her butterfly friends. I am excited for another day with a few hours to myself!

Leave Me Here!

Tomorrow is Ava's first day of preschool.

Friday was her orientation, where the kids get to go visit the classroom and meet their teachers and classmates. It's only 45 minutes long and the parents stay with them. Ava is pretty independent and she knew some kids from her Super 2s class from last year, so she was comfortable walking around the classroom, painting a picture, playing with play doh and playing dress up. Before we left, I let her play outside on the structure for a few minutes. But when I told her it was time to go she looked at me and said "No! Leave me here!" I tried to explain that I would leave her there next week, but this time she needed to come home with me. She said it again and was really upset that she didn't get to stay. She is so funny! I guess she'll do great tomorrow!
